Hola!

Muchos de vosotros sabrán ya (especialmente vosotros que vivís en el Reino Unido y ven la tele) que Mark fue nominado por la British Academy Award por la música de Local Hero. Desgraciadamente no ganó (un chico japonés que escribió Merry Xmas Mr. Lawrence ganó) pero fue genial para él estar nominado. También lo han nominado para el Ivor Novello Award por la banda sonora de Local Hero, así que estamos esperando a ver si gana esta. Paul y yo estaremos en la ceremonia el 19 de Abril (ya que Mark está en unas merecidas y necesitadas vacaciones en el Caribe hasta mitad de Mayo). Quizás recordareis que ganó el premio Ivor Novello el año pasado por la letra del Private Investigations.

A la vuelta de sus vacaciones, Mark irá directamente al estudio para empezar a trabajar con Aztec Camera. En Mayo/Junio, el LP en solitario de John se estará vendiendo en casi todos los paises –finalmente se llamó Never Told a Soul. Al mismo tiempo, Hal y Alan, estarán de gira en USA formando parte de la banda de Tina Turner. Esto serán 45 conciertos como apoyo a Lionel Ritchie, así que si vivís en los Estados Unidos, mirarlo e intentarlo. Tinas acaba de estar en Londres grabando su nuevo LP, y ha grabado una canción llamada Private Dancer la cual Mark escribió para el LP Love Over Gold y que nunca utilizó. Hal, Alan, John y Terry tocan en este LP de Tina el cual saldrá a finales de este año. Creo que probablemente también se llame Private Dancer.

No hay muchas más noticias de momento. He estado muy ocupada ya que nos hemos cambiado de oficina y he estado organizando toda la promoción y prensa para el Alchemy. Los miembros de la banda han hecho entrevistas para casi cada pais en el mundo, bien con periodistas establecidos en Londres o al teléfono, y John y yo visitamos Bruselas y Copenhague hace un par de semanas para hacer más entrevistas. Hal y yo acabamos de llegar de Manchester, donde Hal fue un juez en una escuela de rock –un concurso para bandas jóvenes. Tener que ver 9 bandas sin descanso fue bastante cansado, tengo que decir, pero desgraciadamente, no encontramos ninguna “estrella” potencial… Y eso es todo por ahora. Muchas gracias a todo el mundo que compró el LP y/o el video –los cuales parece ser que se están vendiendo muy bien en todo el mundo. El LP fue oro en el Reino Unido en 5 días y el vides acaba de colocarse número 1 en la lista UK Music-video, así que no nos quejamos.

PS. Todos aquello que ofrecieron a Limahl un lugar donde quedarse –Gracias!! De cualquier manera, él tiene ahora un piso (no muy lejos del mío, en realidad!) y tengo mi piso para mi sola, lo cual es un alivio después de todos estos meses de caos.

Some of you may already know (especially if you live in the UK and watch TV a lot) that Mark was nominated for a British Academy Award for his Local Hero music. Unfortunately he didn't win (a Japanese guy who wrote the Merry Xmas Mr Lawrence score won) but it was great for him to be nominated anyway. He has also been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for the Local Hero music, so we're waiting to see if he wins that one. Paul and I will attend the ceremony on April 19 (as Mark is on a much-needed holiday in the Caribbean till mid-May). You may remember he won an Ivor Novello Award last year for his Private Investigations lyrics.
On Mark's return from holiday, he goes straight into the studio to start work with Aztec Camera. In May/June, John's solo LP will be out in most countries - it's now called Never Told A Soul. At about the same time, Hal and Alan will probably be touring in the USA as part of Tina Turner's band. This is a 45-date tour supporting Lionel Ritchie, so if you live in the States, try and check it out. Tina has just been in London recording her new LP, and she has recorded a song called Private Dancer which Mark wrote for the Love Over Gold LP and which never got used. Hal, Alan, John and Terry all play on Tina's LP which will be out later this year. I think it will probably also be called Private Dancer.
There isn't much other news at the moment. I've been very busy since we moved offices, organising all the press/promotion for Alchemy. The band members have done interviews for just about every country in the world, either with London-based journalists or on the phone, and John and I visited Brussels and Copenhagen a couple of weeks back for interviews. Hal and I have just got back from Manchester, where Hal was a judge on Rockschool - a contest for young bands. Watching nine bands without a break was pretty tiring to say the least, and unfortunately we didn't spot any potential superstars... That's about it for now. Thanks to everyone who bought the LP and/or video - which seems to be doing pretty well everywhere. The LP went gold in the UK within five days, and the video has just entered the UK Music-video charts at Number 1, so we' re not complaining
