Hola a todo el mundo,

Bien, me temo que es Ese Momento del Año otra vez… si, hora de pagar la vasta y extorsionada suscripción para poder permanecer en nuestra lista! Al final de esta carta, encontraréis todos los detalles sobre cómo pagar, cuánto pagar etc etc etc. El precio para algunas áreas ha subido un poquito, pero igual que todo y sigue sin ser muy caro!

FANS EN EL REINO UNIDO Y EUROPA DEBERIAN LEER LA “NOTA ESPECIAL” MUY LENTAMENTE –TIENE QUE VER CON LOS TICKETS PRIORITARIOS PARA LOS CONCIERTOS DEL PROXIMO VERANO, Y LA NECESIDAD DE TENER VUESTROS PEDIDOS RAPIDAMENTE PARA CONSEGUIR LOS MEJORES TICKETS.

Mientras que escribo esto, sólo falta una semana para el primer concierto de la gira mundial! Ni siquiera he tenido tiempo para ir a los ensayos, y veré el concierto por primera vez el 23 de Agosto en Dublín, con lo que me temo, que no podré daros ninguna pista sobre que esperar. Sé las canciones que van en el set, pero probablemente disfrutaréis más del concierto si es una sorpresa total.

Los fans en todos los países de la primera sección europea, ya deberían haber recibido las entradas. Os puedo decir que casi me vuelvo loca haciendo las entradas del Reino Unido –estuvimos completamente inundados con pedidos y nos dio la sensación que tardamos un siglo en mandarlos todos! Muchos de vosotros tenéis sitios excelentes, pero obviamente algunas noches fueron más populares que otras. Y primariamente estoy hablando de la noche del Viernes en Wembley Arena, para la cual el Info Service cogió prácticamente TODAS las entradas del edificio (el no haber concierto la noche del Sábado en Londres, significó que casi TODO EL MUNDO de las afueras de Londres fuese al concierto el Viernes 20 –y antes de que preguntéis –no, no pudimos añadir un concierto el Sábado por la noche porque el equipo tiene que ir a Dortmund!!). Algunos miembros yendo a ese concierto en particular encontrarán que sus asientos están bastante detrás, pero un poco antes de que rediseñen el Wembley Arena, no hubo mucho más que yo pudiese hacer al respecto!.

Por lo menos estaréis allí! Cuando el resto de los tickets de Wembley (es decir, los que no se reservaron por el Info. Service) salieron a la venta, se vendieron en menos de 3 horas! Fue una historia similar en toda Europa!

Me gustaría dar las gracias a aquellos que nos pidieron a nosotros las entradas por ser tan eficientes –con el 99% de todos los pedidos que nos hicieron, no tuvimos ningún problema. Creo que prácticamente TODOS los miembros de la lista en el Reino Unido pidieron!

Una cosa que me gustaría mencionar aquí es el tema de los pases de backstage/conocer la banda. Hemos estado completamente inundados con estas peticiones, y obviamente no podemos organizarlo para tanta gente. Así que –antes que decir si a algunas personas y no a otras, decidimos que teníamos que ser justos y decir que no a todo el mundo. En muchos de los conciertos de esta gira mundial, la banda “se escapará” inmediatamente después de la última canción. En otras palabras, dejarán el local en seguida para así a/ evitar el tráfico, y b/ evitar el estar por ahí en el local, que como podéis imaginar, se hace muy cansado cuando pasa noche tras noche en una gira tan larga.

Habrán un par de ocasiones, de cualquier modo, cuando la banda se quedará después del concierto, ya que puede que tengan familia o invitados que vengan al concierto. En la próxima semana sabré QUE noches la banda tendrá invitados backstage, y entonces miraré quien pidió entradas para esas noches y haré un sorteo. Así que 4 miembros del Info. Service recibirán un par de pases cada uno. Los nombres de los ganadores saldrán en mi próxima carta!!!

Los fans en Australia y Nueva Zelanda deberían haber recibido ya la carta especial que yo mandé hablando sobre los tickets prioritarios, y también el formulario prioritario de los promotores relevantes (Garry van Egmond –Australia, y Ian Magan –Nueva Zelanda). Espero que todos vosotros consigáis las entradas que queréis! Siento que no haya un concierto en Tasmania esta vez, o en Mackay/Cairos, pero obviamente, es imposible tocar en cada ciudad en el mundo entero (aunque leyendo mi itinerario de los próximos dos años, da la sensación de que hemos estado cerca!!!) La última vez no estuvimos en Canberra, con lo que esta vez la hemos puesto en el itinerario.

Para aquellos de vosotros en otros países que quieren saber las fechas de Oz/Nueva Zelanda, la lista aparece en esta carta. Si hay probabilidad de que vayáis a estar en alguno de estos países mientras que la banda está allí, estoy segura de que podría conseguir un par de entradas –pero hacédmelo saber lo antes posible.

Ahora con las demás noticias:

SINGLE: seguramente ya lo habréis oído para cuando recibáis esta carta. La versión de 7” y el casete en single ambos tienen dos canciones “Calling Elvis y “Iron Hand” (ambas canciones del nuevo álbum) y el cd single y el vinilo de 12” tienen una canción extra “Millionaire Blues” (que no está en el álbum). Los pedidos antes de que saliese el single sugieren que funcionará muy bien en muchos países, y de hecho, acaba de llegarme un fax de nuestra compañía de discos holandesa:
“ es un gran placer informaros que el single “Calling Elvis” se ha colocado en el número 2 de las listas holandesas y es 19 de Agosto sin dejar de ponerlo en la radio holandesa.
Hemos pre-vendido 15.000 singles lo cual es un absoluto record en Holanda.
Las reacciones por el video que salió en “Verónica” anoche son fenomenales”.

VIDEO: un trocito del video se mostró el fin de semana pasado en el Reino Unido en “The Chart Show”, y esperamos que si el single va bien se muestre en más programas de televisión. Como ya se ha podido ver, la banda no aparece en realidad en el video! A cambio, han puesto marionetas de los miembros de la banda –esta idea salió de Ferry Anderson que creó las series de televisión de The Thunderbirds (una serie de culto a finales de los 60 y principios de los 70, y que se va a retransmitir otra vez en el Reino Unido en Septiembre, eso me han dicho!). Tengo que confesar que ya que nunca había visto The Thunderbirds (pobre depravada infancia, sin TV, etc!!), no tenía mucha idea sobre lo que iba el video, pero aún así, pensé que era genial!!

ÁLBUM: “On Every Street” se va a editar en todo el mundo el Lunes 9 de septiembre en los tres formatos (cd/casete/LP). Las canciones son las siguientes: Calling Elvis, On Every Street, When it comes to you, Fade to Black, The Bug, You and your friend, Heavy Fuel, Iron Hand, Ticket to Heaven, My parties, Planet of New Orleans, How long. No voy a intentar describiros el disco –todo lo que diré es que ya he seleccionado mis dos favoritas –Fade to Black y Planet of New Orleáns. Cuando lo hayáis escuchado, apreciaríamos vuestros comentarios!!!

TOUR: esto parece que durará toda la eternidad!! Ahora estamos mirando para reservar más fechas a mitades de 1993 aunque no hay nada confirmado todavía. Estamos cambiando fechas constantemente –creo que me quedo con la versión 165 de la hoja de fechas!!! Si en realidad haremos la gira tan larga o no, no está definido –un factor más importante será si todo el mundo está demasiado exhausto para continuar! Así que, para los miembros de la banda que tienen niños pequeños (bastantes de hecho), significa estar lejos de sus familias durante largos periodos de tiempo.

PUBLICIDAD Y PROMOCION: como os dije en mi carta anterior, la banda no tiene intención de hacer muchas cosas de entrevistas/radio/televisión.

Reino Unido: el 31 de Agosto y el 7 de Septiembre, la banda aparecerá en el programa de la tarde de Richard Skinner Saturday Sequence, en Radio 1. También hay un suplemento en la revista “Q” en el número de Octubre (que sale a la venta el 12 de septiembre por alguna razón!), además, la revista “You” (que viene con el “Mail on Sunday”) también trae un artículo el 8 de Septiembre. En esta carta encontraréis una copia del artículo que apareció en “The Sunday Times” el fin de semana, además de un artículo de la semana pasada del “Mail on Sunday”.

Resto del mundo: un programa especial de radio se hará en estaciones de radio de todo el mundo en el mes que viene. Aparecerán canciones del nuevo álbum y una entrevista con Mark. Creo que el programa dura unos 50 minutos.

Abajo os pongo una lista de las estaciones de radio que ya me han confirmado que lo van a retransmitir

Europa: Italia (RETE 105), Grecia (Antenna FM), Francia (NRJ), Hungría (Danubius), Yugoslavia (OP101), Polonia (RMF), Portugal (Radio RFM), Dinamarca (CD1 y red privada), Suiza (DRS), Israel (Voice of Israel), Finlandia (Radiomafia), Bélgica (Studio Brussel y Radio 21), Noruega (NRK), Austria (ORF), Holanda (AVRO), Checoslovaquia (CSSR). Todas las escritas retransmitirán el programa el 5 de septiembre. Las siguientes cadenas me lo han confirmado verbalmente (estamos esperando la confirmación por escrito): España (SER), Suecia (SR) y Alemania (SWF3). Probablemente también lo retransmitirán el 5 de septiembre.

Reino Unido: (Brandland, Devonair, Essex, Halam, Invicta, Norhtsound, Pennine, Metro, Manx, TFM, Viking, Downtown, Isle of Wight, Orchard FM, West Sound, Swansea, Fox FM). Estas lo retransmitirán el 8 de septiembre.

URSS: obviamente las cosas en este país son completamente caóticas mientras escribo esto, pero Radio Roks me ha comentado que es posible que retransmitan el programa, esperemos que el 5 de Septiembre.

Sudamérica: Brasil (Radio Trans American Network), Venezuela (Radio Caracas), Uruguay (Concierto FM), Peru (Tele Stereo 8, Paraguay (Venus). Todas lo han confirmado por escrito para transmisión el 5 de septiembre. Las siguientes no lo han confirmado todavía: México (WFM), Argentina (rock y pop), Bolivia (Radio Fides), Guatemala (FM95).

Australia y Nueva Zelanda: Sydney (2MMM), Melbourne (3MMM), Brisbane (B105), Canberra (FM104.7), Adelaide (SAFM), Perth (96FM), Auckland (99 Hauraki FM), Christchurch (C93FM), Wellington (Radio Windy). Ninguna las ha confirmado todavía, pero probablemente se retransmita el 5 de septiembre.

USA y Canadá: demasiadas estaciones de radio para poner en esta carta. Los fans de estos países encontrarán una hoja con la lista completa. La fecha para la transmisión sería el 14 de septiembre.

Merchandise: adjunto encontraréis un formulario para pedir cosas del merchandise bastante fácil de entender. Es posible que haga una camiseta especial (exclusiva para los miembros del Info. Service) más tarde (principios de 1992 espero), pero honestamente, no puedo hacerlo ahora mismo!! Espero también poder ofreceros más artículos que no puedan ser conseguidos por el público en general.

Fotos: la nueva formación de la banda ha hecho hace poco dos sesiones de fotos. Sólo he tenido tiempo de echar un vistazo a las fotos, pero elegiré las mejores de esta selección y ofreceré el set en mi próxima carta.

Well I´m afraid it´s That Time of the Year again… yes, time to pay the vast and extortionate subscription fee to remain on our mailing list! At the back of this newsletter you´ll find all the details of what to pay, how to pay, etc etc etc. The price for some areas has gone up a bit, but then so has everything else, and it´s still wonderful value for money!!!

FANS IN THE UK AND EUROPE SHOULD READ THE “SPECIAL NOTICE” VERY CAREFULLY –IT RELATES TO PRIORITY TICKTET FOR NEXT SUMMER´S SHOWS, AND THE NEED TO GET YOUR SUBS IN FAST ORDER TO GET THE BEST TICKETS.

At time of typing, it is just a week to go till the first show on the World Tour! I haven´t even had time to go to rehearsals, and I will be seeing the show for the first time on August 23rd in Dublin, so I´m afraid I can´t give you any clues about what to expect. I do know what songs are in the set, but you´ll probably enjoy it more if it´s a complete surprise…
Fans in all countries being visited on the first European section should by now have received their tickets. I can tell you that I nearly went round the twist doing the UK tickets –we were absolutely deluged with applications and it seemed to take forever to send them all out! Most of you have excellent seats, but obviously some nights were much more popular than others. I am primarily talking about the Friday night at Wembley Arena, for which the Info. Service took practically ALL the tickets in the building (the absence of a Saturday night show in London meant that nearly EVERYONE from outside London went for Friday 20th –and before you ask –no, we couldn´t add a Saturday night because the equipment has to get to Dortmund!!). Some members attending that particular night will therefore find their seats are way back in the hall, but short of re-designing Wembley Arena, there wasn´t a lot I could do about it!

Still at least you will be there! When the rest of the Wembley tickets (i.e. those not reserved by the Info. Service) went on sale to the public, they sold out within 3 hours! It was a similar story all over Europe!

I´d like to say thanks to all those of you who ordered through us for being so efficient -99 per cent of all the orders we had went through with no problem at all. I think nearly EVERY Info. Service member in the UK applied!

One thing I´d like to mention here is the subject of backstage passes/meeting the band. We have been absolutely inundated with request, and obviously we just can´t arrange it for so many. So –rather than say yes to some people and no to others, we decided we had to be fair and say no to everyone. At many of the shows on this world tour, the band will be “doing a runner” immediately after the last song. In other words, they will leave the venue straight away in an effort to a/avoid the traffic, and b/avoid the hanging around, which as you can imagine, gets very tiring when it happens night after night on a tour this long.

There will be a few occasions, however, when the band will stay around after the show, as they may have family or guests attending. Within the next week, I will find out WHICH nights the band are going to have guests backstage, and then I will take the ticket application forms for those nights, and a “lucky dip”. So, four Info. Service members will each receive a pair of passes. Names of winners in next newsletter!!!

Fans in Australia and New Zealand should by now have received their special newsletter from me concerning priority tickets, and also the priority booking form from the relevant promoters (Garry van Egmond –Australia, and Ian Magan –New Zealand). Hope you all get all the tickets you want! Sorry there is no date in Tasmania this time, or in Mackay/Cairns, but obviously it´s impossible to play every single town in the entire world (although from reading through my itinerary for the next two years it seems we´re having a pretty good try!!). We missed Canberra last time round, so we´ve got that in the schedule this time to keep you lot in ACT happy!

For those of you in others countries who want to know the Oz/NZ dates, the list is later on in this newsletter. If you are likely to be in either of those countries while the band are there, I´m sure we could sort you out with a couple of tickets –but let me know as soon as possible.

Now, onto the other news:

SINGLE: you will probably have heard it by the time you get this. The 7” vinyl version and the cassette single both have two tracks “Calling Elvis” b/w “Iron Hand” (both tracks from the forthcoming album and the cd single and 12” vinyl single have an extra track “Millionaire Blues” (not on the album). Pre-release orders suggest that it will do very well in many countries, and in fact a fax has just arrived on my desk from our Dutch record company as follows:

“It is with great pleasure to inform you that the SP “Calling Elvis” charted number 2 in Dutch Hit parade and is Monday August 19 power play on Dutch radio.
We have pre-sold 15.000 singles which is an absolute Dutch record.
The reactions on the video which was shown on Veronica last night are phenomenal”.

VIDEO: a bit of video was previewed in the UK on “The Chart Show” last weekend, and hopefully if the single does well it should be widely shown on TV stations. As has now been widely publicised, the band do not actually appear in the video! Instead you will see puppets of the band members –this idea was masterminded by Gerry Anderson who created The Thunderbirds TV series (quite a cult series in the late 60´s and early 70´s, and being re-launched in the UK in September, so I´m told!). I have to confess that because I´d never watched The Thunderbirds (poor deprived childhood, no TV, etc!!!), I didn´t have much of a clue what was going on in the video, but I thought it was great nonetheless!!!

ALBUM: “On Every Street” is being released worldwide on Monday September 9th in all three formats (cd/cassette/LP). The full track listing is as follows: Calling Elvis, On Every Street, When it comes to you, Fade to Black, The Bug, You and your friend, Heavy Fuel, Iron Hand, Ticket to Heaven, My parties, Planet of New Orleans, How long. I´m not going to attempt to describe it to you –all I will say is that I have already picked my two favourites tracks –Fade to black and Planet of New Orleans. Once you have heard it, we´d appreciate your comments!!!

TOUR: This looks like going on forever!! We are now looking at booking further dates right up to the middle of 1993 although nothing´s confirmed yet. We are changing dates around constantly –I think i´m on to Version 165 in the date sheet!!! Whether or not we will actually continue the tour that long isn´t definite –a major factor will be how exhausted everyone is getting! Also, for the band members who have small children (quite a few), it means they will be apart from their families for very large chunks of time.

PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION: As I said in the last newsletter, the band are not intending doing that much in the way of interviews/radio/TV.

UK: on August 31st and September 7th, the band are featured on Richard Skinner´s Saturday Sequence afternoon programme on Radio 1. There is also a “Q” magazine supplement in the October issue (which comes out on September 12th for some reason!), plus “You” magazine (comes with the “Mail on Sunday”) are running an article on September 8th. You will find in this newsletter a copy of the article which appeared in The Sunday Times at the weekend, plus an article from last week´s “Mail on Sunday”

Worldwide: a special feature radio programme will be going out on radio stations all over the world within the next month. It will feature tracks from the new album, plus an interview with Mark. I think the programme will run for about 50 minutes.

Below is a list of the radio stations who have confirmed in writing that they will transmit this programme:

Photos: the new band line-up have recently done two photo sessions. I have only had time to glance through the pictures so far, but I will be choosing the best of the selection, and will be doing a photo offer in the next newsletter.
