Hola a todo el mundo,

Primero de todo, espero que os hayáis recobrado de las Navidades y que hayáis tenido un buen comienzo de año. No sé donde empezar esta carta ya que todo ha cambiado desde que escribí la carta en Septiembre….

Bueno, primero las noticias malas y son que el nuevo album de Mark y la gira ha sido pospuesta.
Las razones son que Mark quiere escribir y grabar algunas canciones adicionales. Y ya que le llevará un poco más de tiempo hacer esto (ni siquiera ha escrito las canciones todavía), no seremos capaces de mandar el producto terminado a la compañía de discos a tiempo para que cumplan la fecha acordada del 1 de Marzo. La fecha más probable para que salga el disco será otoño de 1995, y la gira será después de ello, posiblemente para el 1996.

Lo siento mucho mucho –pero no hay nada que pueda hacer al respecto. Teníamos una gira tremendamente bien organizada que tardamos meses en planear y que ahora hemos tenido que cancelar y mucha gente contratada para la gira que ahora no tendrá trabajo durante el verano, así que, creerme, no fue una decisión tomada a la ligera… y nosotros estamos tan decepcionados por todo esto como vosotros estaréis (modestia del año!).

Mientras que DSIS está cerrado, algunos de vosotros os gustará saber que en Internet ya hay una sección de DS.

TOTAL DE LA SUBASTA

Me gustaría daros las gracias a todo el mundo que tomó parte en nuestra última subasta. Tuvo mucho éxito y pudimos mandar un cheque justo antes de Navidades a la fundación contra el sida de Elton John por valor de 4.500 libras! Debajo os he puesto una copia de la carta que nos mandó la fundación aceptando la suma, recibimos muchas cartas de felices miembros del DSIS que ahora son poseedores de artículos raros de memorabilia los cuales nunca pensaron que pudieran obtener!

GANADORES DE LA COMPETICION

Ya que no hay muchas noticias que contaros ahora, es un momento ideal para poner los dibujos de los ganadores de la competición (tal y como prometí), así que , ahí van:

TERRENCE HIGGINS TRUST
Os acordaréis que puse una nota en mi última carta respecto a esta fundación y el hecho de que haya recibido alguna mala publicidad justo antes de que la carta saliese. Para ponerlo todo correctamente: esto es por una historia que apareció en The Sunday Times sobre el tráfico de drogas, el abuso sexual y la mala dirección en la Fundación. La razón de que pusiésemos esta nota no fue porque creyésemos la historia (no podíamos saber nada por entonces), sino porque pensamos que podría hacer que mucha gente no pujase al leer el artículo, con lo que las dos fundaciones hubiesen sufrido. Resultó ser que este artículo vino de las alegaciones de dos personas que habían dejado la fundación bajo circunstancias no muy amigables. Desde entonces hemos estado en contacto con la fundación, y no tenemos motivos para pensar que había algo de verdad en este artículo, con lo que seguiremos apoyándolos en el futuro.

Bien, y eso es todo por ahora. Siento que sea una carta un poco decepcionante, pero así es la vida, supongo. En los negocios, parece ser que nada está confirmado hasta que no está pasando”! y ahora voy a meter mi cabeza en el horno…

P.S. Referente a la fundación de Elton John contra el sida: tal y como habréis visto en la TV o leído en el periódico, Elton ha abierto una tienda en Londres, vendiendo un montón de sus cosas antiguas de escenario y ropas de diseño, (con lo que ya he vuelto a dos trabajos, otra vez!) –no me pagan por ello, pero me divierte. Inicialmente fue criminal –el día de la apertura tuvimos policía y barricadas de la cantidad de gente que había, pero gracias a dios está más calmado ahora. Todavía hay cosas buenas para comprar –podéis coger una chaqueta de Arman por 100 libras o una camisa de Versace por 30 ó 50 libras, además hay muchas cosas raras de memorabilia. Si estáis en el Reino Unido durante las próximas semanas, intentar visitarlo, se llama Out The Closet, 171 Fullham Road, LondonSW3 (cerca de la parada de metro South Kensington, horas de apertura: 10:30 a 18:30, tel: (071) 591 03 35). Todos los beneficios van para la fundación ya que todo el mundo que estamos trabajando aquí lo hacemos gratis. Pero tenéis que daros prisa, ya que sólo estará temporalmente y cerraremos a mitad de Febrero, para cuando a Elton no le quede ya ropa que ponerse!!!

First of all, hope you have recovered from the Christmas and had a good New Year. I hardly know where to start this letter, since everything has changed since I did the September newsletter...
Anyway, the disappointing news is that Mark's album and tour are postponed.

The reason for the postponement is that Mark wants to write and record some additional tracks. Since it will take him a little time to do this (he hasn't even written the songs yet), we will not be able to deliver the finished product to the record company in time for them to meet the proposed March 1st release date. The most likely time for the album to come out will now be autumn of 1995, and the tour will be after that, possibly even as far off as 1996.

Very, very sorry about this - but there's nothing I can do about it. We had an exceptionally well routed tour set up which took months of planning and which we have now had to cancel, and a lot of people lined up to work on the tour who are now without work for next summer, so believe me, it is not a decision that was taken lightly... and we are all just as disappointed by the whole thing as you probably are (understatement of the year)!
While DSIS is closed, some of you might like to know that on the worldwide computer network InterNet, there's a DS section (...).
AUCTION TOTAL
I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part in our recent auction. It was very successful, and we were able to send a cheque to the Elton John Aids Foundation for £4,500.00 just before Christmas! Below you will find a copy of the letter from the Foundation acknowledging receipt of this sum, and we've had a lot of letters in from happy DSIS members who are now in possession of rare items of memorabilia which they never thought they would be able to own!
COMPETITION RUNNERS-UP
Since we have so little news now, it's an ideal time for me to feature the drawings of the runners-up from our competition (as promised), so here they are!
TERRENCE HIGGINS TRUST
You may recall we put a note in the last newsletter concerning this charity and the fact that it had received some bad publicity just prior to the newsletters going out. To set the record straight: this concerned a story which appeared in The Sunday Times about alleged drug dealing, sexual harassment and mismanagement at The Trust. The reason we put the note in the newsletter was NOT because we believed the story (we had no way of knowing the facts at that point), but because we thought it might put some people off bidding in the auction if they too had read the article, in which case both charities would have suffered. It turns out that the press article stemmed from the allegations of two people who had recently left the THT under not-very-amicable circumstances. We have since been in touch with the Trust, and have no reason to believe there was any truth in anything that was written in the article concerned, so will be continuing to support them in future.
Well, that's all for now. Sorry this is a disappointing newsletter, but that's life I guess. In this business it seems that nothing is confirmed until it is actually happening! I am now going to put my head in the oven...

PS: Re the Elton John Aids Foundation: As you may have seen on TV or read in the press, Elton has opened a shop in London, selling off a lot of his old stage gear and designer clothes, (so I'm back to two jobs again!) - it's unpaid, but lots of fun. Initially, it was mayhem - on the opening day we had to have police and barricades because there was such a huge crowd, but thankfully it's a little calmer now. There are still some good bargains to be had there - you can pick up an Armani jacket for about £100 or a Versace shirt for about £30 - £50, plus there's lots of rare memorabilia. If you're in the UK during the next couple of weeks, try and visit it, it's called Out The Closet, 171 Fulham Road, London SW3 (nearest tube South Kensington, opening hours 10.30 to 6.30, tel: 071 591 0335). All proceeds go to the Foundation since everyone working there is doing it for nothing. You'll have to hurry though, as it's only temporary and closes mid-February, by which time Elton will have nothing to wear at all!!! ..
