Hola a todo el mundo,

Bienvenidos a la primera carta hecha en mi nuevo ordenador! Estoy a punto de aclararme del todo con esto, lo cual es más de lo que podemos decir de nuestro nuevo sistema de teléfonos! Ninguno de nosotros lo tiene claro todavía, con lo que si habéis llamado hace poco y os hemos colgado, nuestras disculpas, intentaremos hacerlo mejor en un futuro!!!

Tal y como os dije en mi última carta que podría ocurrir, HEMOS retrasado la gira, pero os alegraréis de saber que sólo ha sido por unos cuantos meses. Esta es una carta muy corta sólo para informaros de lo que está pasando. En la carta de Mayo habrá mucha más información con todo lo referente al nuevo álbum y las entradas para los conciertos de la primera parte del tour.

El plan es ahora como sigue: se editará un single a principios de Agosto, y el álbum saldrá el 10 de Septiembre. La gira empezará en Irlanda a finales de Agosto, entonces haremos el Reino Unido en Septiembre, seguido de Alemania, Holanda, Bélgica, Francia y Suiza desde finales de Septiembre hasta mitad de Octubre. No anunciaremos estas fechas al público general hasta el 31 de Mayo. Tendréis una carta a principios de Mayo donde podréis reservar vuestras entradas para los primeros conciertos antes de que se pongan a la venta. No podemos hacer un formulario ya, porque todavía estamos trabajando en los detalles de la gira. No olvidar que hemos tenido que deshacer todo el trabajo de 9 meses, y volver a reservar una gira mundial en cuestión de semanas!!

En realidad, hemos cambiado virtualmente todas las fechas, con lo que después de esta primera sección de la gira, el plan es el siguiente:

USA y Canadá Feb/Mar 92
Europa/ Reino Unido 20 Abril -5 Agosto 92
USA 24 Agosto – 14 Nov 92
Sudamérica 3 Dic – 19 Dic 92

Varios de vosotros habéis estado llamando para preguntar cosas sobre la gira, con lo que intentaré responderos lo mejor que pueda:

P –si se retrasa la gira, el álbum saldrá tal y como estaba planeado originalmente?
R –No, el album también se ha retrasado , porque la banda está usando este tiempo de más que tienen antes del comienzo del tour, para grabar un par de canciones extras (para utilizar en caras B de los singles, etc)

P –Por qué no puede la banda hacer los conciertos del Reino Unido que no significa desplazarse, tal y como se planeó, y retrasar el resto de la gira?
R –eso no es posible por razones económicas. Si hiciésemos los conciertos del Reino Unido y luego tuviésemos unos cuantos meses sin hacer nada antes de ir a otros países, qué pasaría con el resto del equipo que trabaja, etc? ellos están comprometidos a hacer la gira, con lo que no podemos esperar de ellos que se sienten durante meses esperando que siga la gira, sin cobrar nada, y mantener sus salarios sin que se haga nada sería imposible.

P –No se pueden hacer conciertos en sitios pequeños en vez de en grandes estadios?
R –el plan ERA dejar los grandes estadios al aire libre para este verano y los lugares pequeños hacerlos al año siguiente. Lo que hemos hecho ahora es darle la vuelta –los locales pequeños se harán este otoño y los grandes estadios se harán en el verano de 1992 (el recorrido es casi idéntico a lo que habíamos planeado para este año –sólo que 12 meses más tarde!)

Mark –Premios Grammy: cómo os dije en mi última carta, Mark y Chet fueron nominados para dos Grammys para el álbum “Neck & Neck” en la categoría de música country. Han ganado los dos!! El primero fue para “Poor Boy Blues” –votada como mejor colaboración vocal country. La segunda fue para “So Long, your Goodbye” –votada como mejor canción instrumental country.

Al girar la página, ya que hay tan pocas noticias desde que os escribí la última vez, encontraréis un crucigrama que he puesto sólo para vuestra diversión. Fue enviado por una miembro del DSIS, Christine Kay, que dice que tiene más crucigramas en casa, con lo que si os gusta la idea, quizás pueda persuadirla para que me mande más para futuras cartas –hacédmelo saber!

OK, pues esto es el final de esta corta carta. Sólo faltan unas cuantas semanas para que llegue la siguiente, con lo que no tendréis que esperar demasiado. Sólo para vuestra información, estaré fuera a partir de 14 de Marzo durante un par de semanas.

Welcome to the first newsletter done on my new computer! I am just about getting the hang of it now, which is more than can be said for our new phone system! None of us have quite fathomed it out yet, so if you´ve rung recently and we´ve cut you off, apologies, we will try and do better in future!!!

As I indicated might happen it the last newsletter, we HAVE postponed the tour, but you´ll be pleased to hear we´ve only delayed it by a few months. This is a very brief newsletter just to keep you in the picture. The May one will be a bumper issue with all the album information and ticket information for the first part of the tour.

The plan is now as follow: a single will be released in early August, and the album will be released on September 10th. The tour will start in Eire at the end of August, then we do the UK in September, followed by dates in Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and Switzerland from late September to mid October. We won´t be announcing these shows to the general public until May 31st. you are due your newsletter at the beginning of May, in which will be the booking form for this first lot of shows so you´ll be able to reserve your tickets before they go on sale. We can´t do a booking form this time, as we´re still working on the details of the tour. Don´t forget, we´ve had to undo 9 months of work, and try and re-book an entire world tour in a matter of weeks!!

We´ve actually changed virtually all of the schedule, so after that first section of the tour, the plan is now to do the following:

South America 3rd Dec – 19th Dec 92

Several of you have been ringing to ask various tour-related questions, so i´ll do my best to answer them:

Q- if the tour is postponed, will the album still come out as originally planned?
A/ no, the album has also been delayed, because the band are using the extra time they now have before the start of the tour to record a couple of extra songs (for use as B-sides of singles, etc)

Q- Why can´t the band just do the UK shows which involve no travelling, as planned, and delay the rest of the tour?
A- that isn´t possible for economic reasons. If we were to play the UK dates and then have a few months gap before doing other countries, what would happen to the crew members etc? they have committed do doing the tour, therefore we cannot expect them to sit around for months in between gigs without any pay, and to keep everyone on wages while nothing is happening would be impossible.

Q- Can´t you do some small shows instead of big stadiums?
A –The plan WAS to do the stadiums this summer and the indoor ones next year. What we have now done is to change them round –the smaller indoor shows will take place this autumn, and the large outdoor stadium shows will be in the summer of 1992 (an almost identical run to those we had planned for this year –just 12 months later!)

Mark –Grammy Awards: as I said in the last newsletter, Mark and Chet had received two Grammy nominations for the “Neck & Neck” album in the Country Music category. They won both! The first was for “Poor boy blues” –voted best country Vocal collaboration. The second was for “So long, your goodbye” –voted Best Country Instrumental Performance.

Over the page, as there is so little news since I last wrote, you will find a crossword puzzle which I have put in just for your amusement. It was sent by DSIS member Christine Kay, who says she has some other puzzles at home, so if you like the idea, maybe I can persuade her to send me some more for future newsletters –let me know!

Ok, that´s the end of this very short newsletter. It´s only a few weeks till the next one arrives, so not long to wait. Just for your information, I´ll be away from March 14th for a couple of weeks.
