Siento que esta carta venga con un mes más o menos de retraso, pero estaba intentando quitarme de encima todo lo referente a las entradas del Reino Unido, más hacer las listas de invitados para los conciertos de América!

Hay dos cositas nuevas: primero de todo, que hemos añadido un concierto más en Ipswich Football Ground el 18 de Junio y hay un formulario para hacer los pedidos al final de esta carta en caso de que alguien quiera conseguir entradas. Los fans en el extranjero que quieran tickets para este conciertos me tendrán que enviar un sobre con sellos para los detalles.

En segundo lugar, ya hemos confirmado las fechas de los conciertos de verano/otoño 1992. estas son las siguientes:

Sé que todos nuestros miembros del D.S.I.S. italianos estarán especialmente contentos de ver esto, ya que no pudimos estar durante la gira del “Brothers in Arms” debido a no poder encontrar un promotor medio decente.

Los conciertos italianos saldrán a la venta al público general sobre el 25 de Abril, y los conciertos franceses sobre el 2 de Mayo. Los miembros del D.S.I.S. de estos países podrán hacer sus pedidos de entradas antes de esas fechas –por favor, ver la información sobre como hacer las reservas más adelante en esta carta.

También hemos puesto unas fechas tentativas para el sur de España a finales de Agosto, dos ciudades más en Italia en Septiembre, además de el sur de Francia y España para Octubre. Es posible que también añadamos fechas para el bloque de Este. Pero los detalles ahora mismo son muy vagos con lo que notificaré a los fans de estos países una vez que haya fechas confirmadas. Si no sabéis nada de mi, tendréis que asumir que no hemos añadido ningún concierto en vuestro país.

CONCIERTOS EN EARLS COURT, VERANO 92

Ya hemos confirmado las hoaras para estos conciertos, y son las siguientes:

Puertas abiertas: 5:30pm
Was (not Was) en el escenario: 6:50pm
Dire Straits en el escenario: 8:15/8:30 pm
Fin del concierto: 10 :30 (lo más tarde 10:45pm)


ÁLBUM EN DIRECTO

Estoy siendo inundada con preguntas sobre si se sacará un álbum de esta gira: la respuesta es si, estamos planeando uno para la primavera del 1993. Desde luego, los conciertos europeos están siendo grabados (todavía no sé cuales) –os podré dar más información en mi carta de Mayo.

FOTOS GRATIS EN ALGUNAS CARTAS

Acabamos de hacer un poco de limpieza en la oficina y he conseguido juntar una larga selección de fotos del pasado y del presente –desgraciadamente no suficientes para darle una a cada miembro del D.S.I.S., con lo que he cogido varios sobres al azar. Hay algunas que son de hace mucho tiempo, o tomadas en el Live Aid, o en el concierto de Nelson Mandela, algunas de los NHB, y algunas de las más recientes, también como otras de Montserrat, fotos de estudio, y algunas de fotos firmadas de actuales miembros de la banda o miembros del pasado. Algunas son buenas, otras no tan buenas, algunas son raídas, otras las habréis visto ya y otras todavía no…

COPIAS DE MARCA BLANCA

La otra cosa que he conseguido desenterrar es una pila de viejas pruebas y copias de marca blanca de discos. Son unos 30 más o menos, y realmente no tengo el tiempo para probarlos todos y ver si están rotos o no. Con lo que, quién los quiere? Si estáis interesados, mandadme una tarjeta marcada con “marca blanca” y vuestro nombre y dirección. Todas las tarjetas irán a una caja, y las primeras treinta que saque al azar el 3 de Mayo, conseguirán los discos.

Como podéis ver, ya se están acercando al final de esta sección y tendrán más de una semana de descanso antes de empezar con la gira Europea (el primer concierto es Metz, Francia, 18 de abril) la cual durará todo el verano –con lo que habrá mucha gente muy cansada por aquí en otoño!! El mejor concierto de esta gira ha sido hasta ahora Madison Square Garden, donde la audiencia fue fantástica, y se le dio a la banda una ovación con la gente de pie que duró varios minutos.

AGENDAS DE DIRE STRAITS

Veréis que algunas personas han Ganado agendas de Dire Straits hechas por Phonogram por donar a la beneficencia de Terrence Higgins Trust –Phonogram tenía algunas de sobra y me dijo que podía ofrecerlas a los miembros de D.S.I.S. Sé que un cuarto de 1992 ya ha pasado, pero ya que es un artículo de coleccionismo, estoy segura de algunos lo querrán. Las medidas son de 26 cm x 21 cm. de tapa dura, en piel marrón y dorada y contiene fotos en color de la banda, biografía, discografía, las letras de las canciones del “OES”, mapas, etc. Si os gustaría tener uno, hay un formulario al final de la carta. Si tenemos muchos pedidos, devolveremos el dinero a aquellos que no tengan suerte. Veréis que para los fans del extranjero el precio es bastante alto, pero esto es debido a los costes de envío tan caros –las agendas pesan bastante y cuesta una fortuna el enviarla!

RECORTES DE PERIODICOS

He estado recibiendo muchas cartas pidiendo más recortes de periódicos, etc. para ponerlas en las cartas, con lo que he encontrado otro pequeño artículo más que vi para esta carta (lo veréis después). Si hay algún periódico o revista en vuestros países que traiga un interesante o inusual historia de DS, por favor, enviádmelo para ponerlo en futuras cartas para que otros fans de otros países también puedan leerlo. Por favor, no inundarme con historias típicas “standard”! también encontraréis en esta carta una viñeta que me ha mandado el miembro de D.S.I.S suizo Marco Corda, que me pareció brillante. Obviamente tiene una buena idea de lo que es estar llevando todo lo de las entradas!!! Gracias Marco –nos vemos en Francia!

CAMISETAS/FOTOS

Algunos de vosotros me habéis preguntado si tenemos camisetas o fotos en stock: hemos vendido todas las camisetas con el diseño 2 y 3. Pero tenemos algunas con el diseño 1 –si queréis alguna, mandadme lo antes posible el formulario de la última carta. Si no lo tenéis ya o lo habéis utilizado o perdido, simplemente mandar vuestro pedido en una carta (os recuerdo, costaban 10 libras para fans en el Reino Unido/Europa, 15 libras fuera de Europa (sólo en libras esterlinas). Referente a las fotos: tenemos unos 15 sets disponibles, con lo que el primero que los pida, los tendrá -10 libras cada set.

Sorry this newsletter s a month or so late, but i was trying to get the bulk of the UK tickets done first, plus sort out the American guest-lists for each night!

There are two main bits of news: first of all, we have added another UK date, at Ipswich Football Ground on June 18th and there´s a booking forma at the back of this newsletter for anyone wanting tickets. Overseas fans who require tickets for Ipswich should send a self-addressed envelope for details.

Secondly, we have confirmed some of the dates for late summer/autumn 1992. These are as follows:

I know all our Italian D.S.I.S. members will be especially pleased about this, since we missed Italy out on the “Brothers in Arms” tour having not been able to find a half-decent promoter.

The Italian shows are due to go on sale to the general public on or about April 25th, and the French shows on or about May 2nd. D.S.I.S. members in those countries will be able to order their priority tickets before that –please see booking information later on in this newsletter.

We have also lined up tentative dates in Southern Spain at the end of August, two more Italian cities in September, plus some in Southern France and Spain for October. It is possible that we will also add dates in the Eastern Bloc. But details of all these are very vague at present so I will notify fans living in the countries concerned once we have confirmed dates. If you do not hear from me, you should assume that we have not added concerts in your country.

We now have confirmed timings for these shows, and they are as follows:

LIVE ALBUM

I´m being inundated with questions about whether there will be a live album released from this tour: the answer is yes, we are planning one for release in Spring 1993. Certain European dates are being recorded (don´t know which ones yet) –I will be able to give you much fuller information in the May newsletter.

FREE PHOTOS IN SOME NEWSLETTER

We have just had a bit of a clear–out at the office, and I managed to collect together a large selection of photos past and present –unfortunately not enough to give one to each D.S.I.S. member, so I have put one in various envelopes at random. There are some very early shots, some taken at Live Aid or the Nelson Mandela show, some Hillbillies ones, and some form the most recent set of dates, as well as shots taken in Montserrat, studio shots, and odd signed photos of current or past band members. Some are good, some not so good, some a bit tatty some you will have seen and some you won´t…

TEST PRESSING/ WHITE LABEL COPIES

The other thing I have unearthed is a pile of old test pressings/ white label copies of albums. There are about 30 of them, and I really don´t have time to play them all to see what they are, or indeed whether they are playable at all. So, who wants them? If you are interested, send me a postcard marked “white label” and with your name and address on it. All cards will go into a box, and the first 30 drawn out of the box on May 3rd will get the records.

GRAMMY/BRIT. AWARDS NOMINATIONS

The band did receive one Grammy award nomination, in the “Best short-form music video” category –for the “Calling Elvis” video. Unfortunately, they didn´t win –R.E.M. won, but I can´t remember what video it was for! In the Brit. Awards, they were nominated as “Best British Band”, and Mark was nominated for “Best British Producer” –again they did not win either award!

La banda estaba nominada a los Grammys para la categoría de “mejor video de música” –por el video de Calling Elvis. Desgraciadamente, no ganaron –Ganó R.E.M. pero no recuerdo por qué video! En los premios británicos, fueron nominados para “mejor banda británica”, y Mark fue nominado para “mejor productor británico” –una vez más, no ganaron ninguno de los dos premios.

As you can see, they are nearing the end of this section now, and they have just over a week off before starting the European tour (first show: Metz, France, April 18th) which goes on for the rest of the summer –so there will be a lot of weary people around here by autumn!! The best show on the tour so far has been Madison Square Garden, where the audience was fantastic, and the band got a standing ovation for several minutes.

DIRE STRAITS DESK DIARIES

You will see that some people won Dire Straits Phonogram desk diaries in the Terrence Higgins Trust charity draw –Phonogram have just a few of these left, and have said I can offer them to D.S.I.S members. I know a quarter of 1992 has already gone, but since they are real collectors’ items, I´m sure some of you will want them. They are 26 cm x 21 cm hardbacks, in gold embossed marron leather, and contain colour pictures of the band, biography, discography, “OES” song lyrics, maps, etc If you would like one, there´s an order form later in this letter. If we get too many orders, we will return payments for those who were unlucky. You will see that for overseas fans, the price is rather high, but this is because of the extortionate postage costs –the diaries are quite heavy, and cost a fortune to send!

REVIEWS/NEWSPAPER CUTTINGS

We´ve been getting lots of letters asking for more press cuttings and reviews etc. to be printed in the newsletter, so I have dug out one amusing little article I saw for this letter (see later). If a newspaper or magazine in your country carries an interesting or unusual DS story o review, feel free to send it in to me for inclusion in future newsletters so fans in other countries can also read it. Please don´t deluge me with “standard” type stories! You will also find in this newsletter a cartoon of me sent in by Swiss D.S.I.S member Marco Corda, which I thought it was brilliant. He obviously has a good idea of what it is like running the box office!!! Thanks Marco, see you in France!

T-SHIRTS/PHOTOS

Some of you have asked if we have any more t-shirts or photo-sets left: we have completely run out of t-shirts Design 2 and 3. we do have a few of Design 1 remaining –if you want one, send off a.s.a.p. using the order form from the last newsletter. If you have already used your form, or lost it, and want a shirt, just send your order in a letter (to remind you, they are 10.00 pounds for fans in UK/Europe, 15 pounds outside Europe (sterling cash only). Re photos: we have only about 15 sets left, so it´s first come first served -10 pounds a set
